We are pleased to introduce the NACM Certified Christian Wedding Officiant course, taught by Rev. Michael Mooney, Executive Elder of the National Association of Christian Ministers.
Drawing upon more than twenty years of real-world wedding ministry, this comprehensive course prepares Christian ministers to officiate weddings with biblical faithfulness, pastoral confidence, professional competence, and legal awareness. Students learn far more than how to conduct a ceremony. They develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to serve couples with excellence while honoring God’s design for marriage.
Throughout the course, students progressively write and refine their own original Christian wedding ceremony, including the opening, prayer, biblical message, vows, ring presentation, blessing, and closing. By the completion of the course, graduates will possess a polished ceremony they can confidently personalize and use throughout their ministry.
Successful graduates receive an NACM Certified Christian Wedding Officiant Certificate, with the cost of certification and shipping included in the course tuition.

Course Overview #
This course prepares Christian ministers to conduct weddings with biblical faithfulness, professional competence, legal awareness, and pastoral wisdom.
Officiating a Christian wedding involves much more than speaking before a couple and their guests. The officiant represents the ministry of Jesus Christ, honors the biblical meaning of marriage, serves the couple with integrity, and fulfills the lawful responsibilities associated with the ceremony.
A Christian wedding officiant must always remember whose minister he or she is.
The course presents marriage as a holy covenant established by God between one biological man and one biological woman. It prepares ministers to offer distinctly Christian, evangelical Protestant ceremonies in which the couple makes marriage vows before God.
Practical Wedding-Ministry Experience #
This course is shaped by the real-world experience of Rev. Michael Mooney, Executive Elder, who has conducted weddings successfully for more than 20 years. Through this ministry, he became one of the most sought-after wedding officiants in Upstate South Carolina.
His experience provides practical insight into what makes a ceremony successful, what commonly creates problems, and how a prepared minister responds when circumstances do not proceed as expected. This experience is presented to help new officiants avoid preventable mistakes and develop confidence through preparation.

- Remember and protect their identity as ministers of Jesus Christ.
- Establish Christian expectations and ministerial boundaries with couples.
- Identify the type, size, setting, and practical requirements of a wedding.
- Gather information and verify marriage documents.
- Plan and coordinate elopements, formal weddings, and rehearsals.
- Develop and organize a complete Christian wedding ceremony.
- Write an opening that establishes the Christian purpose of the ceremony.
- Write a prayer inviting the Holy Spirit and giving God preeminence.
- Prepare an original biblical wedding message based upon Adam and Eve.
- Write a declaration of intent that the bride and groom answer separately with “I do.”
- Present, explain, and pray over the wedding rings.
- Write Christian covenant vows that the bride and groom affirm by answering each covenant-vow question with “Yes.”
- Write a final charge, closing prayer, pronouncement, and presentation of the couple.
- Lead the ceremony with confidence, peace, and pastoral awareness.
- Complete and return marriage documents according to current jurisdictional requirements.
- Respond wisely to difficult requests, unexpected situations, and sensitive concerns.
- Recognize when legal guidance or reporting obligations may require additional action.
Prerequisites #
Participants must: #
- Be located in one of the 50 states of the United States.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Be NACM-recognized ordained ministers in good standing.
- Intend to offer distinctly Christian, evangelical Protestant wedding ceremonies rather than Roman Catholic or Orthodox rites.
- Agree not to perform civil-only ceremonies that are absent of Christian recognition of God.
- Agree to officiate weddings only between one biological man and one biological woman.
- Require a valid marriage license issued by the appropriate civil authority before performing any wedding ceremony.
- Agree to follow the current marriage laws and administrative requirements of each jurisdiction where they officiate.
Completion of this course does not guarantee that a student is authorized to solemnize marriages in every jurisdiction. Each officiant remains responsible for verifying and following the current requirements wherever a wedding occurs.
